September 2009 - Rocky River City Schools

Rocky River City School District proudly announces the launch of its new web site.  The web site contains many new features to keep stakeholders informed and to foster timely communication between the school and the community.

“One of our strategic objectives is that ‘all students will learn in an environment that is technologically competitive on a global level.’  I believe that our new website allows us to use current technology to communicate the information that our students, parents, staff and community need to help us meet this objective,” says Dianna R. Foley, Ph.D., Coordinator of Communications and Technology for Rocky River City School District.

The new website’s clean design and well organized links offer easy navigation.  From the home page, visitors can access district forms, find information about organizations, or link directly to one of the district’s four schools.  They can also read district news on the home page, or subscribe to an RSS feed.  The district hopes the local press will use this feature to stay informed about district events.  For people who prefer email communication, the site offers a listserv as well.

“The site aims not only to provide information to the community and parents, but also to help direct people in ways to become involved with their local district.  Site visitors can link to school organizations and can also sign up to be part of the strategic planning team,” said Rob O’Leary, CEO of Infinite Cohesion and creator of eSchoolView, the content management system Rocky River’s site uses.

The website underscores the value Rocky River places on two-way communication with the community.  In addition to the links to organizations and the multitude of information about events and news, the site offers a blog from Superintendent Dr. Michael Shoaf.  The blog has already received additional posts and has the potential to become an active conversation around school issues.

The site also showcases Rocky River’s dedication to professionalism and staff development.  It posts its peer reviewed journal called the River Educator on the site and allows citizens to subscribe.  This journal gives staff a chance to publish on subjects such as collaboration, experiential learning and other pedagogy.  It also allows the community to see firsthand the quality of staff the district employs, and gain access to some of the underlying principles and theories that inform teaching and learning.

The district knows this investment in communication will be a positive force in forging and maintaining relationships between the district and the community it serves.  The website can be found at www.rrcs.org.
